Ag valuation in Chambers County

Running cattle, cutting hay or farming instead of managing for wildlife? These are the Chambers County Appraisal District’s published degree-of-intensity standards for the 1-d-1 agricultural valuation.

Chambers CAD's minimums are 3 acres for improved pasture (with 2 hay cuttings a year) and 6 acres for native pasture stocked at 1 animal unit per 6 acres (1 AU = 1 cow/calf, 1 brood mare, or 5 goats, sheep or hogs). No minimum herd size is stated. When a homestead is carved out, the district takes 1 acre on tracts of 10+ acres, ½ acre on 5–9 acres and ¼ acre on 3–5 acres without removing ag value on the rest.

An animal unit is one cow (or cow-calf pair); a horse counts as one, and about five goats or sheep make one, though some districts count them differently. See what Texas requires for ag valuation. Your appraisal district has the final say, so call them if anything here doesn’t match your letter.
