Habitat Ledger › Savings calculator
What is your wildlife valuation worth?
Land appraised for wildlife management use is taxed on its low productivity value instead of its market value. Put in the numbers from your appraisal notice to see roughly what that saves you each year, and what's at stake if the valuation is lost.
Estimated yearly savings
These are example numbers. Values and tax rates vary a lot across Texas. Use the market and productivity values on your own appraisal notice and the tax rates on your tax statement for a real estimate.
What's at stake if the valuation is lost
If land stops qualifying, the appraisal district can charge a rollback: the difference between the taxes you paid and the taxes you would have paid at market value, for several past years, plus interest. On top of that, you'd pay full market-value taxes from then on. Your appraisal district can tell you exactly how a rollback would be figured for your property.
Most valuations are lost for one simple reason: the owner can't show the work. Keeping dated logs, photos and receipts all year, and turning in the annual report on time, is what protects these savings. Read the annual report guide or check your county's deadline.
