What to keep for Dimmit County
Whether or not Dimmit County asks for a report this year, keep dated proof that you carried out at least three of the seven wildlife management practices in your plan:
- A log of each activity: the date, what you did, where and how much
- Dated photos of the work (feeders, water, brush piles, cleared brush)
- Receipts and invoices for feed, seed, materials and contractors
- Census sheets with dates, routes and numbers seen
Read our plain-English guide to the annual report (PWD-888) for the full 3-of-7 rule, or see deadlines for other counties.
Ag valuation in Dimmit County
Running cattle, cutting hay or farming instead of managing for wildlife? These are the Dimmit Central Appraisal District’s published degree-of-intensity standards for the 1-d-1 agricultural valuation.
The ag advisory board set 30 acres as the minimum for ranch land; improved pasture and cropland need 5 acres. Native pasture is stocked at 1 animal unit per 90 acres and improved pasture at 1 per 15 acres, with at least 2 animal units on any tract.
| Minimum acres | 5 acres (grazing) |
|---|---|
| Minimum animals | 2 animal units |
| Improved pasture | 15 acres per animal unit |
| Native pasture | 90 acres per animal unit |
| Hay | Improved pasture/hay: cut and bale at least 2 times a year dry land or 3 times irrigated; minimum yield 1.5 tons per acre. |
| Crops and orchards | Dry or irrigated cropland 5 acres; orchards and vineyards 5 acres (pecans 14 trees/acre, vineyards 100 vines/acre). Wheat grazed must support 1 animal unit per 1.5 acres. |
| Beekeeping | 5–20 acres (state law); no hive count is set in the guidelines. |
| History and filing | Land must be in ag use 5 of the preceding 7 years and in use at least 6 months a year. Apply January 1–April 30 (60-day extension on written request). First-time applications are field-inspected; you may be asked for sworn statements, feed/vet/seed invoices, sale receipts, Schedule F and a current lease. |

An animal unit is one cow (or cow-calf pair); a horse counts as one, and about five goats or sheep make one, though some districts count them differently. See what Texas requires for ag valuation. Your appraisal district has the final say, so call them if anything here doesn’t match your letter.
