Annual report only when the district asks

Grimes CAD says it may require, and periodically requires, an annual report showing how the wildlife plan was carried out; no due date is posted. Keep photos, invoices and activity logs. Minimum is generally 10 acres; 12.5 acres for individual tracts split from a larger qualified tract.

Ag valuation in Grimes County

Running cattle, cutting hay or farming instead of managing for wildlife? These are the Grimes Central Appraisal District’s published degree-of-intensity standards for the 1-d-1 agricultural valuation.

Grimes CAD does not post a minimum acreage, minimum herd size or stocking rate for grazing or hay land. Its posted standards cover beekeeping only. Call the district at (936) 873-2163 for grazing standards.

Beekeeping5 to 20 acres (6 acres if there is a home on the property). 5 acres needs 6 colonies, plus 1 hive for each additional 2.5 acres (20 acres needs 12). Hives must be kept alive and maintained, and the land must pass a physical inspection.
History and filingLand must have been in ag use 5 of the preceding 7 years. File the application between January 1 and April 30.

An animal unit is one cow (or cow-calf pair); a horse counts as one, and about five goats or sheep make one, though some districts count them differently. See what Texas requires for ag valuation. Your appraisal district has the final say, so call them if anything here doesn’t match your letter.
