Native and improved pasture each need at least 10 acres, fenced with access to water, and at least 5 animal units. Native pasture is stocked at 1 animal per 7 acres and improved pasture at 1 animal unit per 3 acres; an animal unit is 1 cow, 1 brood mare, or 5 goats, sheep or hogs.

Beekeeping5–20 acres; at least 6 hives for the first 5 acres plus 1 hive for each additional 2.5 acres. Show 5 of 7 years of history; Texas Apiary Inspection Service permits can serve as evidence.
History and filingLand must have been in agriculture 5 of the last 7 years. File before May 1 (up to 60 more days for good cause if asked before May 1); late filing before the roll is approved carries a 10% penalty. Land must be in use by May 1 of the application year. Evidence includes leases, expense receipts, sales receipts and photos.
Leases and small tractsOther land owned or leased can be combined to meet the intensity guidelines, and lease agreements are accepted as evidence.

An animal unit is one cow (or cow-calf pair); a horse counts as one, and about five goats or sheep make one, though some districts count them differently. See what Texas requires for ag valuation. Your appraisal district has the final say, so call them if anything here doesn’t match your letter.
