Ag valuation in Marion County

Running cattle, cutting hay or farming instead of managing for wildlife? These are the Marion Central Appraisal District’s published degree-of-intensity standards for the 1-d-1 agricultural valuation.

Improved pasture, native pasture and cropland each need at least 10 acres; timber needs 5 acres. Your house and yard (the acreage on your homestead exemption) must be listed as a homesite. The district does not post a minimum herd size or stocking rate.

History and filingThe district's ag questionnaire asks for livestock numbers and type, improved and native pasture acres, hay acres cut each year, last fertilized date, crops planted, any lease (renter's name, address and phone), plus receipts and a deed or plat. The district's timber page repeats the state rule of use in 5 of the preceding 7 years.

An animal unit is one cow (or cow-calf pair); a horse counts as one, and about five goats or sheep make one, though some districts count them differently. See what Texas requires for ag valuation. Your appraisal district has the final say, so call them if anything here doesn’t match your letter.
