What to keep for McMullen County
Whether or not McMullen County asks for a report this year, keep dated proof that you carried out at least three of the seven wildlife management practices in your plan:
- A log of each activity: the date, what you did, where and how much
- Dated photos of the work (feeders, water, brush piles, cleared brush)
- Receipts and invoices for feed, seed, materials and contractors
- Census sheets with dates, routes and numbers seen
Read our plain-English guide to the annual report (PWD-888) for the full 3-of-7 rule, or see deadlines for other counties.
Ag valuation in McMullen County
Running cattle, cutting hay or farming instead of managing for wildlife? These are the McMullen County Appraisal District’s published degree-of-intensity standards for the 1-d-1 agricultural valuation.
A beef cow-calf operation typically needs at least 10 animal units (10 head). The stocking rate is about 30 acres per animal unit for all pasture types (one rate covers improved and native). The perimeter must be fully fenced; a single electric wire alone is not acceptable.
| Minimum animals | 10 animal units |
|---|---|
| Stocking rate | 30 acres per animal unit |
| Hay | Hay crop land needs at least 20 acres, with weed and brush control evident. |
| Crops and orchards | Row crops need at least 20 acres; truck farms about 10 acres; orchards and vineyards 5+ acres; turf grass 20 acres. |
| Beekeeping | At least 6 colonies on 5 acres, plus 1 hive for each added 2.5 acres, up to 20 acres (6–12 hives). Permits from the Texas Apiary Inspection Service can show the 5-of-7-year history. |
| History and filing | The beekeeping policy repeats the 5-of-7-year history rule. The standards do not list an application deadline or other required records. |
| Leases and small tracts | A small tract (typically 10 acres or less) leased as part of a larger operation may qualify if a written lease or owner's statement of an oral agreement is on file with the district. |

An animal unit is one cow (or cow-calf pair); a horse counts as one, and about five goats or sheep make one, though some districts count them differently. See what Texas requires for ag valuation. Your appraisal district has the final say, so call them if anything here doesn’t match your letter.
