What to keep for Runnels County
Whether or not Runnels County asks for a report this year, keep dated proof that you carried out at least three of the seven wildlife management practices in your plan:
- A log of each activity: the date, what you did, where and how much
- Dated photos of the work (feeders, water, brush piles, cleared brush)
- Receipts and invoices for feed, seed, materials and contractors
- Census sheets with dates, routes and numbers seen

Ag valuation in Runnels County
Running cattle, cutting hay or farming instead of managing for wildlife? These are the Runnels Central Appraisal District’s published degree-of-intensity standards for the 1-d-1 agricultural valuation.
Runnels CAD uses one stocking rate for the county: about 1 animal unit per 40 acres, so the same rate is shown for improved and native pasture. The district requires at least 1 animal unit (for example 1 cow-calf pair, or 4 sheep or goats). It sets no fixed minimum acreage, but at least 1 acre with a house is classed as residential and gets no ag value.
| Minimum animals | 1 animal units |
|---|---|
| Stocking rate | 40 acres per animal unit |
| Beekeeping | 5–20 qualifying acres after the homesite is removed. At least 1 hive per 5 acres (the district recommends 2 per 5 acres). Owners cannot combine land to reach 5 acres. |
| History and filing | Land outside city limits needs ag use 5 of the past 7 years; inside city limits, 5 of the past 5 years. Applications are due April 30 (a 60-day extension can be requested before May 1); late filing until the roll is approved carries a 10% penalty. |
| Leases and small tracts | Include a current, signed lease with the owner name, property ID, acres, purpose, term and the lessee's contact information. A lease alone is not enough proof; add photos and receipts. |

An animal unit is one cow (or cow-calf pair); a horse counts as one, and about five goats or sheep make one, though some districts count them differently. See what Texas requires for ag valuation. Your appraisal district has the final say, so call them if anything here doesn’t match your letter.
