- A log of each activity: the date, what you did, where and how much
- Dated photos of the work (feeders, water, brush piles, cleared brush)
- Receipts and invoices for feed, seed, materials and contractors
- Census sheets with dates, routes and numbers seen

Ag valuation in Tom Green County
Running cattle, cutting hay or farming instead of managing for wildlife? These are the Tom Green County Appraisal District’s published degree-of-intensity standards for the 1-d-1 agricultural valuation.
Grazing needs at least 1 animal unit, at about 1 animal unit per 40 acres; this one rate is a guideline for all pasture, and smaller tracts may be accepted case by case. At least 1 acre is set aside as residential where there is a house, and that land doesn't qualify.
| Minimum animals | 1 animal units |
|---|---|
| Stocking rate | 40 acres per animal unit |
| Beekeeping | Bees: 5–20 acres not counting the homesite; 2 hives on the first 5–10 acres, 3 on 15 acres, 4 on 20 acres. Each owner must have their own qualifying acres. |
| History and filing | Land needs a 5-of-7-year ag history. Without one, the owner files an application each year for 5 years with field checks and qualifies in year 6. Apply by April 30. |
| Leases and small tracts | Include a current signed and dated lease listing the owner, property ID, acres leased, purpose, term and lessee contact. A lease alone isn't enough proof without photos, receipts, etc. |

An animal unit is one cow (or cow-calf pair); a horse counts as one, and about five goats or sheep make one, though some districts count them differently. See what Texas requires for ag valuation. Your appraisal district has the final say, so call them if anything here doesn’t match your letter.
